Why would be Napa the perfect place to live? “For many reasons” say our local tennis players. ” In Napa you find people everywhere to play with in many different levels and ages. Each facility has clubs and people playing together for many years.” We have great tennis instructors. Rick Hannover and Rebecca Thompson have been teaching here for decades. At the Napa Valley College Rebecca Thompson, PhD, is been teaching college students in any age since 1995. Rick Hannover used to teach at the Napa Valley Country Club and is now teaching at any court her in Napa. No wonder we have such a strong “Tennis Society.”
This is a very special tennis year for Napa. The USTA Norcal reports:
“Napa Valley Country Club will host “The Napa Valley Challenger ,” a $50,000 U.S. Tennis Association Pro Circuit event. It takes place Sept. 21-29. The tournament will take place at Napa Valley Country Club at 3385 Hagen Road, Napa, (707) 252-2299.
The Napa Valley Challenger will consist of 32 Challenger-level players with world rankings ranging from No. 60 to No. 200 on the ATP Tour. The USTA Pro Circuit is the pathway to the professional ranks for today’s rising stars and aspiring pros.
Napa Valley Country Club has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1915. The private club has nine tennis courts, eight of which are lighted, along with two Har-Tru ClayTech courts.
The 2013 USTA Pro Circuit season will deliver nearly $3 million in prize money and award the valuable ATP and WTA Tour ranking points that players need to ascend to the next level. There are only 15 events in the Challenger series throughout the country.
This Series is the largest developmental tennis circuit in the world.
The USTA Pro Circuit has launched the careers of such current stars as Victoria Azarenka, John Isner, Mardy Fish, Andy Murray, Maria Sharapova and Caroline Wozniacki, as well as past champions Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, Lindsay Davenport, Justine Henin and Pete Sampras.
Seventeen USTA Pro Circuit alumni have achieved the No. 1 world singles rankings. Recent alums and current players include fast-rising young Americans Ryan Harrison, Christina McHale, Sloane Stephens and Jack Sock.
These are plenty of reasons any prudent tennis player to check out our town and county clubs. And in your break I’ll show you homes with private tennis courts and upscale Napa lifestyle.
